If you’re looking to make a wedding cake for someone, this is an excellent choice because the geode decoration is so simple yet effective. The best thing is that you can be tactical with where you carve the cake to disguise any bits of not-so-perfect fondant. You can also choose your favourite flavours for this – not all the tiers have to be same flavour! That way guests can have a selection to choose from. However, it’s best to choose sturdier cakes for the base layers, such as the Vanilla Cake, Apple or Pear & Elderflower Cake or the Ginger Cake. The more fragile cakes – Red Velvet, Chocolate, and Crème Brûlée Cake – are best for the top tier. If you’re transporting this to a wedding, it’s best to crumb coat and cover the individual tiers with fondant, then stack the whole cake and decorate it at the venue.
